Snack Time Solutions

As a mom, particularly with one who has kids home all day, snacks have been a consistent challenge in our household. I want my kids to be independent and get snacks for themselves, but also ensure that they are making nutritious choices.

My first attempt to solve this challenge was a snack platter. I loaded it up with fruits, veggies, cheese, and other snacks I felt good about. It seemed like a great solution, but its unwieldy size made it more of a problem than a practical solution. It was heavy and an awkward size for our refrigerator. So while it offered variety and some convenience, it was a less than ideal solution.

Then I came across the snack box. This compact, refrigerator-friendly solution was a game-changer. Not only does it fit neatly on the shelf, but its sections allow for a diverse selection of snacks, and it is easy for the kids to handle on their own.

Here’s how I break down the box: one section for fresh fruit, another for fresh vegetables, a third for proteins / fats like the cheese and salami in this version, and the fourth for something crunchy, like crackers or Teddy Grahams. This set up encourages a balanced diet and satisfies various cravings, making snack time so easy. As a bonus, I just clean and refill the sections as the kids use them up, so even if I’m busy, they can have a snack when they are ready. I take out anything that doesn’t need to be refrigerated (the crackers), then snap the lid on and pop the whole thing in the fridge.

The snack box has not just simplified snack time; it has empowered my kids. They like preparing their own plates and it’s so wonderful to see them help each other out. The oldest can help the youngest get the box out and to the table and they all share and take turns filling their plates. This small shift has fostered both independence and cooperation.

The snack box has transformed our snack routine. It’s manageable, promotes healthy eating, and support my kids’ independence. For other parents navigating the snack dilemma, consider giving the snack box a try. It might be just the solution you’ve been searching for.

Snack Box - This is the exact version that I bought. It’s held up great and the food remains fresh in the 2-3 days before it’s all eaten.
